Burger Kings across the nation are trying to go a little more upscale by renovating their nearly 12,000 locations for a more sit-down feel.
According to the Huffington Post,
The company said the new design, called "20/20" at the Miami-based chain, is already in place at about 60 locations around the world. Burger King expects about 75 more redesigned restaurants to be open by the end of next year. But it will take years before all its locations are transformed.
However, based on my observations, the new BK stores look more like approximations of 60s science fiction sets. And I like it! Kind of makes me want to go and get a Whopper right now.
'What's in the Box' is a first-person short film which has been labeled as a "test film". Don't worry; I have no idea what that means, either. It was dropped online back in March, though I had not seen it until just yesterday. With it's title, I can't help but be reminded of the last scene from Se7en.
'WITB' involves a young guy (I presume, judging by the clothes and such) awaking in some kind of facility, a siren going off and a strange black cloud circling a tower outside. He procures said said mysterious box and flees the scene...and then some other stuff happens. Check it out. It's nice little science fiction short film. You'll want to go to full-screen and turn up the volume, or else go to the film's Official Web Site.
If you pay attention, you can hear sound effects from Half-Life 2 playing in certain parts. /Film did some speculative pondering when the video appeared on the internet, though nothing seems to have come to fruition:
The informational sidebar also provides the following url: www.whatsinthebox.nl. When you go to the site, you will find a box with a blinking question mark which sporadically glows red. Many people think it’s the start of a viral. Some have even suggested it is for Half-Life 3… but I think it might actually just be a very well put together special effects demo.
I just saw on io9.com (quoting Ain't it Cool News about a recent conversation with Sly Stallone RE: the new Rambo movie. It...might take a leap of, erm, logic. Here's what Sly had to say about it.
It is set in the Pacific Northwest. Back in the general area where we first were introduced to John. It seems that somewhere in that Area there is a U.S. Military installation that is doing experiments on elite soldiers as part of some sort of program where they're attempting to tap into that SAVAGERY that we have deeply embedded into us. The plan is create brilliantly instinctual killer soldiers that have no qualms about taking life.
I was down with the fourth movie because it seemed to work in the spirit of the series (and it was hella bloody), but this new version may take it into "Leprechaum in Space" territory. Though the series probably couldn't have jumped the shark, it's bordering on becoming this whole other thing, this weird amalgamation of crazy Ed Wood style of geniuousness. I'd still watch it, but my reservations are only in my small reserve of "good taste". Ah, but did I ever have that in the first place?
I have to admit that I am just a big fan of the first Cloverfield flick. I know, I know. It uses a drawn-out first act (ostensibly to make you "care" about the characters and/or make the movie seem more "real") in order to set up a pretty frantic and - I have to say - kick-ass second and third acts. Sure the movie runs into some trouble towards the end, and I'm not a huge fan of the ending, but it's still a pretty good, though gimmicky, flick.
And it also had a pretty good take at the box office as well, so it wasn't a surprise to me to see what seems to be a teaser trailer for the sequel while I was trolling the internet the other day. I found a post on Topless Robot that points out a few noticeable things, like the sign near the end that appears to say Cloverfield. Either way, let's see where this viral video marketing thing takes us.
